Rural Volunteering Initiative
STOP PRESS: Through a further award from the Scottish Government's People and Communities Fund the Rural Volunteering Initiative has been extended until 31st March 2017
Forth Community Resource Centre Steering Group is delighted to announce it has been awarded £34,163 from the Scottish Government’s People and Communities Fund towards its Rural Volunteering Initiative. Over the next 12 months, this Initiative will develop the skills of volunteers to deliver Work Club services into our rural area, helping people with digital job searching, computer skills and access to local training.
Additional match funding has also been secured from The Renewable Energy Fund and Coalfields Regeneration Trust, ensuring opportunities and delivery are of the highest quality.
Convenor Andrew Henderson said, “This is great news and builds on the success of our earlier project work. Through this volunteering project we are aiming to develop sustainable services within our community which, in turn, will help local people gain the confidence and skills needed towards a better future.”
Through our development work we know that 4 in 5 jobs are only advertised on the internet but that 50% of people have difficulty using a computer for job searching. The Rural Volunteering Initiative will address this trend and give people the support they need to compete in today’s jobs market.
Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Communities and Pensioners’ Rights Alex Neil said: “Every community in Scotland has different challenges and aspirations and there is no one-size fits all approach to tackling poverty.
“That’s why our People and Communities Fund is giving communities the power and confidence to shape their own futures and address inequalities more effectively.
“The Fund gives community groups like the Forth Community Resource Centre Steering Group, the chance to identify problems in their area and the funding to provide solutions.”

HELPING LOCAL PEOPLE FIND WORK
Forth Community Resource Centre Steering Group is delighted to announce it has been awarded £42288 from the Scottish Ministers’ People and Communities Fund towards its Rural Community Working Initiative. Additional match funding has also been secured from The Renewable Energy Fund and South Lanarkshire Rural Partnership LEADER Programme, ensuring opportunities and delivery are of the highest quality.
Convenor Andrew Henderson said, “This is great news. It has taken 2 years to develop this project and it has the potential to make such a difference to the lives of local people. Anyone who is looking for a job, or looking for a better job, and needs help will be welcomed along.”
